Imagine a pharmacy system that not only streamlines medication dispensing but also elevates patient care to unprecedented heights. This is the foundation of NCODA’s Center of Excellence (CoE) Medically Integrated Pharmacy (MIP) Accreditation. As the first and only accreditation specifically designed for medically integrated pharmacies, the NCODA CoE MIP Accreditation program sets a new standard in patient-centered care. This article, the first in a series of three, delves into the distinctive edge of NCODA’s accreditation, highlighting its innovative approach to improving patient outcomes, enhancing service quality, and reducing costs.

MIPs are specialized pharmacy systems that dispense medications but also integrate closely with healthcare teams to provide comprehensive patient care. MIPs provide seamless access and use of the electronic health record (EHR), ensuring that pharmacists are fully informed contributing effectively to patient management.

The NCODA MIP accreditation program is designed to help your organization meet the four goals of the quadruple aim through effective SOPs and workflow. It introduces innovative patient-centered standards aimed at improving patient outcomes, enhancing service quality, and reducing costs. By adopting our accreditation standards and best practices, MIPs can effectively track valuable patient outcomes and eliminate clinical fragmentation through seamless coordination with the patient’s Care Plan Protocol.

NCODA’s Consultative Approach to Accreditation

The NCODA CoE MIP Accreditation is further distinguished by its consultative approach, emphasizing hands-on support and practical implementation of standards to deliver seamless patient care. Our program provides clarity and consistency through partnership with participating MIPs. Unlike traditional accreditation programs that may leave practices to navigate the requirements on their own, NCODA reviewers work closely with MIPs throughout the accreditation process, providing real-time feedback and guidance. This support includes providing guidance on best practices, optimizing workflows, and ensuring compliance with accreditation standards. NCODA reviewers are readily available to answer questions and provide insights, making the accreditation process more manageable and less daunting for participants.

Added Value in Partnership with Prime Therapeutics IntegratedRx

Prime Therapeutics’ IntegratedRx Oncology program, a network of clinically integrated specialty pharmacies, was developed to decrease fragmentation of care, curb medication cost, and improve treatment start time. IntegratedRx allows prescribed oncology medicine(s) to be filled at local participating MIPs such as clinics, hospitals and/or health systems. Prescriptions can be picked up at their physician visit which may allow them to be received in a timelier manner compared to a central fill pharmacy.  Through IntegratedRx, members can receive their medicine via an integrated MIP, where provider and pharmacist are part of the same team, allowing for direct lines of communication to ensure total patient management. To join the IntegratedRx network, MIPs need to showcase their operational and clinical competencies in line with accreditation standards.

NCODA CoE MIP Accreditation, the preferred accreditation for Prime Therapeutics’ IntegratedRx Oncology, meets quality requirements while reducing the burden associated with some broad accreditations, especially for oncology-specific pharmacies. By integrating with NCODA’s CoE MIP Accreditation, pharmacies retain more prescriptions, ensuring patients receive continuous, high-quality care. The partnership between Prime Therapeutics and NCODA fosters continuous improvement in patient care, with a focus on continuity of care and providing ongoing support to patients.

By adopting NCODA’s patient-centered standards and best practices, MIPs can achieve seamless coordination with patient care plans, track valuable patient outcomes, and eliminate clinical fragmentation. The consultative approach of the accreditation process, combined with the partnership with Prime Therapeutics’ IntegratedRx Oncology, ensures MIPs are prepared to enact, audit, and continually improve workflows supporting accreditation standards. This program is a testament to NCODA’s commitment to elevating patient care and fostering ongoing support for patients and healthcare providers alike.
