INTRODUCTION TO PHARMACY SERVICES STAFF W/ BRIEF BIO:
I began by career in pharmacy in August of 2012 in the retail setting. I came to Shenandoah Oncology in June 2014 charged with the task of establishing the IOD from the ground up. Oncology had not been part of my pharmacy knowledge prior to coming here, so I was looking for anything that would help. NCODA has been a tremendous resource in learning how other dispensaries are organized and function. Since the beginning our script count has continued to grow year over year. I manage inventory for our dispensary, work alongside our patient financial counselors to provide financial assistance to our patients, and track medication compliance.
DISPENSING TYPE (RETAIL VS DISPENSARY)
We are a medically integrated dispensary.
SERVICES PROVIDED (BONE MARROW, RADIATION, CHEMO)
We provide oncology, hematology, radiation services and provide both infusion and oral treatments.
WHY DID YOU JOIN NCODA?
I needed knowledge and support from those experienced in oncology/hematology.
HOW DID YOU BECOME A MEMBER?
NCODA was recommended to me by my mentor at the US Oncology Network.
HOW DID YOU HEAR ABOUT US?
Andrew Marcus from the US Oncology Network made the recommendation.
HOW CAN NCODA HELP YOU?
NCODA helps by providing the most up-to-date information about oncology treatments. I am also interested in completing the process for the Oncology Tech Certification.
HOW WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE MORE INVOLVED WITH NCODA?
I am trying to be as involved as possible in the Oncology Pharmacy Technician group and will continue to participate and advocate for our profession.
WHAT ARE SOME CHALLENGES YOU FACE NOW OR WILL FACE IN THE FUTURE OF ONCOLOGY?
The biggest challenge is finding time to get every thing finished. It is also difficult to grow the business with so many insurance companies requiring the use of specialty sites rather than local dispensaries.
