Celebrating a Decade of Impact: Member Spotlight on Becky Fowler, CPhT
Published Date: November 19, 2025
In celebrating NCODA’s 10-year anniversary, we are honored to spotlight members who embody the values of patient-centered oncology care. This feature highlights Becky Fowler, CPhT, of Infirmary Health System in Daphne, Alabama. Becky’s dedication to supporting patients both clinically and emotionally reflects the compassionate spirit that defines NCODA’s community.
What is your role and what are some of your key areas of focus each day?
Becky – I began my pharmacy career in 2019 at Walgreens before moving into oncology two years ago. Today, at Infirmary Health in Daphne, Alabama, I manage refill calls, monitor patient adherence and side effects, and handle financial needs. This includes prior authorizations, appeals, arranging out-of-network access, and securing financial aid through copay cards, grants, or patient assistance programs.
What was it that drew you to the profession?
Becky – At Walgreens, I realized how much I valued patient care and personal connections. Moving into oncology in 2023 deepened that perspective—I built relationships with patients and their families, offered emotional support, and helped ease financial burdens. One of the most rewarding parts of my role is telling patients they can now afford chemotherapy and focus solely on treatment and quality of life.
Is there a memory or moment that comes to mind where you were particularly proud of your work?
Becky – Two experiences stand out. One was helping a brain cancer patient secure medication after multiple appeals, while also connecting her family with food and bill support during a critical time. Another was supporting a CML patient both financially and emotionally, especially when she traveled to be with her terminally ill daughter. In both cases, I was more than a pharmacy technician—I was someone they could lean on.
What do you see as the ongoing development of oncological care in your role?
Becky – Oncology is rapidly evolving, and I’m grateful to be part of such a compassionate field. I hope to continue growing into an Oncology Pharmacist role, supporting patients clinically and emotionally.
How does NCODA and the information they offer support or help you in your continued growth?
Becky – Since I am newer to oncology, I have continued to learn and grow in clinic rapidly, but setting aside the time to study for the COPhT exam made me really understand how many elements go into the clinical side for oncology care. It also helps me see how critical it is to have knowledgeable pharmacists and pharmacy technicians involved in these cases for patients facing cancer.
Sometimes healthcare workers are the only support the patient has. Our role is important, and the patients can tell when we genuinely care about them and their health journey. I hope to continue to grow my knowledge, in part through NCODA’s ongoing education and programs, so I can continue to care for oncology patients the way they deserve.
As NCODA celebrates ten years of working to advance patient-centered care, we thank you all for what you do each day.
